Scripture: 2 Corinthians 5:20-21 We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
Devotion: Ambassador (noun): an accredited diplomat sent by a country as its official representative to a foreign country. This is the first definition of ambassador that comes up when you search it. But the second definition is perhaps a bit more helpful for us when we look at the idea of being Christ’s ambassadors like it says in 2 Corinthians 5:20-10. Ambassador (noun): a person who acts as a representative or promoter of a specified activity.
We are representatives of Christ. I don’t know about you, but it feels as though that title outranks me and my abilities. I’m often not sure how or why God uses me to represent Him to others. There are certainly other people who are more qualified. They have greater Biblical and theological knowledge, a more powerful testimony, or haven’t screwed up as much as I have. But none of that changes whether or not I am an ambassador of Christ.
When we know Jesus as our Savior, trust in Him for the forgiveness of our sins, and commit our lives to Him, we get the title of ambassador. This is perhaps the easiest promotion that we will ever receive. While it may seem as though the stakes are incredibly high in this role, we are showing Jesus’ love and sharing about Him with others. After all, the one that we report to is as grace-filled as they come. We won’t always get it right as we seek to represent Jesus. But when we ask Him to fill us and guide us, we can give all of the shortcomings to Him and trust that He will use them all for His glory.
Reflect:
- What does it mean to you that you are an ambassador of Christ?
