Scripture: 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!
Devotional: If you are in Christ, you are indeed a new creation. Your past has been forgiven, you’ve been made new.
The problem is, sometimes we don’t live completely into this truth. We can easily forget what Christ has done for us and, out of habit, take on or return to our old nature. We can lay down our burdens at the cross, but then go back and get them.
Today’s passage is a great one to memorize, because we all need a reminder that Christ has made us new. Faith is walking daily in that truth. Our enemy the devil will try to draw us down old paths and ways of thinking. But it takes a renewed mind each and every day to continue to walk in the newness of life that Christ offers.
Romans 12:1-2 says, “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” The problem with a living sacrifice is that it keeps crawling off the altar. So we must intentionally offer ourselves anew each day.
When you do, you can put your past behind you and live into what Christ has done to make you a new creation.
- How would you characterize your faith walk lately? Are you living as a new creation, or more like your old self?
- If you’re struggling with the latter, consider offering yourself anew today.
