B.J. Van Kalsbeek
Pastor of Congregational Life Ministry
BJ serves as the Congregational Life Pastor at Sunnybrook. He grew up in Orange City, IA and graduated from Northwestern College in Orange City with a bachelor of arts degree in Religion. He interned one summer at Sunnybrook in youth ministry. While at NW, BJ experienced a sense of call to ministry and interest in jail/prison ministry. This led him to Western Theological Seminary in Holland, MI where he received a Master of Divinity degree and also went through Clinical Pastoral Education. He then moved to Sioux City to serve in chaplaincy at Mercy Medical Center for 11 years, in which Sunnybrook became his home church. Eventually wrestling with a sense of call to the local church, BJ joined the Sunnybrook staff in 2014. BJ oversees Care Ministry, Counseling, Support Groups and Jail ministries.
BJ and his wife, Manda, have been married over 20 years and have 4 wonderful goof balls for children. He enjoys active time with his family, including a lot of time at ball fields and gyms and whenever they can get to water and fly around the lake on some skis.
