Scripture: Matthew 5:3-10 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Devotional: Do you ever look around at our world and think, “What on earth has happened?” While we do have a tendency to look back on the past with rose-colored glasses, it is easy to wonder where true virtue and Godly character have gone. We once expected certain characteristics to be present in people, and those now seem to have gone by the wayside.
Over the next five weeks, we will take a deep dive into some of the virtues that are lost within our society. This is important, but not because we want everyone in the world to look and think like us. Rather, it is important because the Bible has certain standards for how we are to live our lives as Christians. At times, we will look different than the rest of the world. And that’s okay. Let’s start this journey together in trying to recapture the lost virtues in our lives.
