Day 12 Commit

September 21, 2023

Scripture: Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

Devotional: Marriage is not only an expression of the commitment into which God calls people. It's this unique, beautiful, rich, and challenging picture of what faithfulness is really like. It’s forging through challenges and difficulties into a beautiful thing called trust.

Trust doesn’t mean you never hurt each other. Trust is a commitment that even in the midst of hurt, betrayal, and disappointment, I am committed to working through things with you. It’s a master’s course in perseverance that wholly depends on the power of the Holy Spirit to live out. Thus, the cord of three strands that Solomon speaks of in His great wisdom.

Two are better than one, and three is the ultimate. When God is at the center of your relationship, whether it’s friend, family or a marital relationship, there is strength, endurance, warmth, support, and protection.

A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

Reflect:

  • In what ways are you seeking to bring Christ as that third strand in your relationships?
