Scripture: James 1:5-8 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.
Devotional: As we talked about yesterday, God has given believers the gift of the Holy Spirit dwelling within them. The Holy Spirit cultivates love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. As this fruit grows and matures within our lives, we are given a better lens through which to view things. This same lens can be used for how we view issues in our country and around the world.
In addition to that, we also have the opportunity to pray for wisdom and discernment. The Lord will give generously to those who seek it. We can ask for wisdom not only when making decisions, but also in our relationships. How amazing is it that we have a God who wants us to present all of our requests before Him and desires to give us wisdom? What a loving, personal God He is. He cares enough for us that He is willing to help guide us in every situation.
When it comes to politics and how we handle ourselves in those conversations, it would serve us well to remember this. There is no issue or request that is too small for God. So as we seek to engage with people who disagree with us and determine where we stand on certain issues, let’s remember that we can bring them all before God.
Reflect:
- In what areas can you pray for wisdom and guidance?
