Day 12 The Book of Ruth

February 13, 2025

Scripture: Matthew 6:34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Devotion: “Do the next right thing in faith, with excellence, and for the glory of God.” I love this quote. It reminds me to slow down and take life one step at a time. Another thing that we can learn from Ruth 2, as we discussed yesterday, is what it looks like to be obedient to God. Ruth and Naomi were obedient in leaving Moab and heading toward Bethlehem. As such, the Lord’s blessing followed. But making that radical of a life change can seem intimidating. That’s part of why I loved the Scripture for today. As we seek to live a life of obedience, much like we see exemplified in the book of Ruth, we can just take it day by day.

Perhaps you need that reminder today. That though we have a race set before us by God, we have the opportunity to choose Him every single day. We can take it one day at a time. We cannot run the entire race tomorrow. Instead, we can make the most of every day that we have been given.

What does that look like? I think it is living for our Lord every moment that we have. It is embodying Jesus in each of our interactions. It is choosing to press on in the faith despite the circumstances around us.

Our verse for today reminds us that each day has enough trouble of its own. So rather than worrying about what is to come, we can focus on the day that is before us right now. Yes, we should surrender fully to the plan and will of our Father as we try to live a life of obedience to Him. But we truly can take this one day at a time.

It is starting our morning off by thanking Him for another day before we do anything else. It is giving our day over and surrendering it to Him. It is praying for guidance as we go about our days. It is praying for wisdom on when to speak and when to listen. It is praying that we would be a light to others. It is seeking to share the good news of Jesus any chance that we get. It is, like Ruth and Naomi, asking the Lord to help us simply take the next right step in obedience.

Reflect:

  • What is one next step in obedience that you can take in your life?
