Scripture: Romans 8:28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
Devotion: We are closing out this week’s devotions with a passage of Scripture we’ve often repeated together. But it is one that is so very helpful to keep at the forefront of your mind. If you’ve never memorized this verse, perhaps now is the time to do so.
When you can remember that in all things God is working for your good, you’ll have patience and trust in the waiting. You’ll be able to recognize that just because God feels silent doesn't mean that He's absent. You’ll know instinctively that while you are waiting, He's still working. You’ll trust the sovereignty of the God of the Universe who is all-powerful, all-knowing, and most of all, full of goodness and mercy.
Lest you question the last part of that verse – God is working for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose- and you wonder if that includes you, be reminded of this:
1 Timothy 2:3-6 says: “This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people.” That means you. You are included in the “all people”, and among the “all people” for whom Jesus gave Himself as a ransom. To love Him is to receive that gift of love from Him. And to accept that He is working for your good.
He's working as you are waiting. Trust Him.
Reflect:
- What might your waiting look like when you are able to recognize that God is always working for your good?
- Ask Him to remind you of that truth every day.
