Day 16 Who Am I?

June 16, 2025

Scripture: Matthew 6:33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Devotion: Here is the problem that we are discussing this week: we can never do enough to be enough. Have you ever fallen into the lie that your worth is based on what you do? I certainly have. I have told myself that I would be a better wife I got a load of laundry done every day. I have believed the lie that I am not a good enough parent when I have a bad day. I have found myself thinking that I have to accept every opportunity at work in order to be viewed as a valuable employee. All of these are lies based on the idea that I can earn the approval of others based on what I do. But the reality is, I will never do enough to be enough.

We need to stop placing our identity in what others think about what we accomplish. We are worth much more than our productivity. Whether or not we have checked off all of the boxes on our to-do list is far less important in the eyes of the Lord than how we have reflected Him throughout the day.

When we seek Him first, longing to glorify Him with our lives, we can trust that He will provide for us. In our relationships, in our job, in our marriage, and in our family, He is faithful to provide. We need not try to earn the approval of others or simply do enough to be accepted. The Lord will sustain us in each of these areas when we dedicate our days to seeking Him first.

Reflect:

  • How have you been tempted to believe the lie that you can do enough to be enough?
