Day 17 Habits

June 11, 2024

Scripture: Isaiah 43:19 See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.

Devotional: If you’ve ever found yourself in a wasteland, there’s nothing better than having a new thing spring up that is life-giving and refreshing. That’s what God promises us in our driest desert times. He is the Living Water, able to satisfy us in a way that no other thing can.

Yet, we often find ourselves going to the same old empty dried-up well. Why is that?  Sometimes it’s just an old habit, and we don’t even realize that we’re contributing to an overall state of dehydration to our parched souls.

Jesus comes to offer something different. His Living Water can be like a Superbloom for our souls.  If you’ve ever seen images of this desert phenomenon where massive amounts of wildflowers bloom at exactly the same time, you understand the spectacular beauty of something so lifeless and barren coming to extravagant life.

That is what Jesus longs to offer you.

His invitation is: “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them”  (John 7:37-38).

Reflect:

  • In what ways may your old habits keep you going to the same dry well?
  • How might you respond to Jesus’ invitation to come to Him and be refreshed?
