Day 17 Religion & Politics

November 05, 2024

Devotional: Today is election day! It is an important day for our country and one that we have responsibility in. I encourage you to get out and use your right to vote today. And after you have done that, you can rest in the fact that God is the same today as He was yesterday. Regardless of the outcome, God has a plan. He is sovereign, faithful, trustworthy, good, and full of love. He cares for us. That was true in the Old Testament, it was true in the New Testament, it is true today, and it will be true of Him forever.

Let’s take some time to slowly read Psalm 46, reminding us of that truth. And once you have read it, go through it again. Let the words of the Psalm comfort you and be your prayer today.

God is our refuge and strength,

    an ever-present help in trouble.

Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way

    and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,

though its waters roar and foam

    and the mountains quake with their surging.

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,

    the holy place where the Most High dwells.

God is within her, she will not fall;

    God will help her at break of day.

Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;

    he lifts his voice, the earth melts.

The Lord Almighty is with us;

    the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Come and see what the Lord has done,

    the desolations he has brought on the earth.

He makes wars cease

    to the ends of the earth.

He breaks the bow and shatters the spear;

    he burns the shields with fire.

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;

    I will be exalted among the nations,

    I will be exalted in the earth.”

The Lord Almighty is with us;

    the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Pray:

  • Thank God that we live in a country where we have freedom of religion.
  • Thank Him that we have a right to vote.
  • Pray that the election would be honest.
  • Thank God that He is in control and the reminder that He is God, and we are not.
