Day 17 What God Can Do Through Ordinary You

April 23, 2024

Scripture: Hebrews 11:11-12 And by faith even Sarah, who was past childbearing age, was enabled to bear children because she considered him faithful who had made the promise. And so from this one man, and he as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on the seashore.

Devotional: Today we look at one of the most shocking fulfillments of God’s promises to Abraham - the test that he and his wife Sarah faced of an impossible problem.

God promised Abraham that they would have a son – and that through this son would come descendants as numerous as the stars. But there was a real dilemma here.  Sarah and Abraham were 99 and 100 years old- way past childbearing age. Sarah had been barren all her life; no way was she physically capable at this point of bearing children. In fact, she laughed when the messengers of God told Abraham she would bear a son. Wouldn’t you?

But lo and behold, what God promised, He delivered. (pun intended) A baby boy named Isaac (meaning laughter). God absolutely has a sense of humor.

Friend, God is faithful to His promises. You may not have a specific promise of a child, a job, financial security, or a prayer answered in the way you would like. But God’s general promise is to be with you, to never leave you or forsake you, and that He has good plans for you (Jeremiah 29:11).

Reflect:

  • What impossible situation are you facing today? Trust God to see you through, even when you can’t see it.
