Day 20 Religion & Politics

November 08, 2024

Scripture: Psalm 85 You, Lord, showed favor to your land;

    you restored the fortunes of Jacob.

You forgave the iniquity of your people

    and covered all their sins.

You set aside all your wrath

    and turned from your fierce anger.

Restore us again, God our Savior,

    and put away your displeasure toward us.

Will you be angry with us forever?

    Will you prolong your anger through all generations?

Will you not revive us again,

    that your people may rejoice in you?

Show us your unfailing love, Lord,

    and grant us your salvation.

I will listen to what God the Lord says;

    he promises peace to his people, his faithful servants—

    but let them not turn to folly.

Surely his salvation is near those who fear him,

    that his glory may dwell in our land.

Love and faithfulness meet together;

    righteousness and peace kiss each other.

Faithfulness springs forth from the earth,

    and righteousness looks down from heaven.

The Lord will indeed give what is good,

    and our land will yield its harvest.

Righteousness goes before him

    and prepares the way for his steps.

Devotional: All throughout history, there have been revivals within the Church. These are often an evangelistic movement that  God is seen at work in different ways. Within church circles, people often either love the word revival or hate it. But what I think everyone would agree that right now what our country needs is a revival. We need people to reignite their love for Jesus, for the Church as a whole to stand up, and for leaders to bow before Him.

This is a revival that this country needs, and we can pray for it to happen. The Psalm for today reminds us that love, faithfulness, righteousness, and peace can all exist together. As we seek to magnify the Lord in all that we do, sharing about Him with others, these are the attributes that we can bring with us and talk about when we share. We must proclaim the Good News of Jesus and the truth of God’s Word faithfully and with love. We get to share about the peace that has come because we put our hope in Jesus.

We do so in the hopes that all will come to know Christ as their Savior and proclaim that He is Lord. Let’s pray that God will revive our hearts and renew us as we seek to do this every day. And let us also pray that God will send revival throughout this country, softening hearts and turning all to Him.

Pray:

  • Pray for a revival in this country, that God would move in such a way that captures people’s attention and turns their hearts towards Him.
  • Pray that we, as individuals and the Church, would bring love, faithfulness, righteousness, and peace to all of our interactions.
