Scripture: Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Devotional: We have read about many examples of loyalty that encourage us to remain loyal in our lives. But we also have the perfect example of loyalty: God.
Even though we have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, and this has been true throughout all of human history, God has always provided a way to be reconciled to Him. He has always given us a way to be forgiven and made clean. And when He sent Jesus to die on the cross, which was always a part of His plan, He sent a way for us to come to Him directly. To be in His presence. To have the Holy Spirit dwelling in us.
And no amount of sin could get in the way of that. Like our verse from today says, “While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Notice it doesn’t say, “When we have become perfect in His sight, He died for us.” No, while we were still sinners, he followed through on His plan to send a Savior. For you. For me. For ALL who put their faith and trust in Jesus. Now that is loyalty.
Reflect:
- Are you trusting in your salvation because of works (things you have done)? Or do you recognize that it is only by the work of Christ?
- Thank God that while we have all sinned and continue to fall short, He has forgiven us and His mercies are new every morning!
