Day 22 The Book of Ruth

February 23, 2025

We have been learning about the story of a woman named Ruth through our Sunday messages. Perhaps you have read through the book of Ruth before or maybe you had never even heard of it prior to this message series. This week, we are going to take a deeper dive into the narrative by continuing to read through the book of Ruth for ourselves. We will cover chapters 3 and 4. I encourage you to grab your Bible, a journal, and a pen to reflect on what God is teaching you through this section of scripture. Here is the format that we will follow:

Be Still: As you read, write out the Bible verse or verses that stick out to you most.

Abide: What truth can you learn? Are there any principles or commands present? What is the overall theme of the text?

Adore: What does the text reveal about God and His character?

Apply: How does this Scripture apply to your life today? How does the truth of God’s Word change your daily perspective? How can you live differently in light of this truth?

Pray: Pray God’s Word back to Him. Turn these thoughts into prayer. Ask the Lord to show you how to meditate on and apply this Scripture to your life.

Scripture: Ruth 3:1-6 One day Ruth’s mother-in-law Naomi said to her, “My daughter, I must find a home for you, where you will be well provided for. Now Boaz, with whose women you have worked, is a relative of ours. Tonight he will be winnowing barley on the threshing floor. Wash, put on perfume, and get dressed in your best clothes. Then go down to the threshing floor, but don’t let him know you are there until he has finished eating and drinking. When he lies down, note the place where he is lying. Then go and uncover his feet and lie down. He will tell you what to do.”

“I will do whatever you say,” Ruth answered. So she went down to the threshing floor and did everything her mother-in-law told her to do.

For consideration as you reflect:

  1. We see Naomi instruct Ruth to wash, put on perfume, and get dressed. What overarching references do you notice here? (wash- Ephesians 5:26, perfume- 1 John 2:20, dress- Isaiah 61:10)
  2. As we start to note overarching themes and draw comparisons to other Biblical topics and characters, how can you find yourself in the story of Ruth?
