Day 23 Peace of Mind

May 15, 2023

Scripture: Psalm 55:1-2 Listen to my prayer, O God, do not ignore my plea; hear me and answer me. My thoughts trouble me and I am distraught.

Devotional: What most often causes you to be driven to despair? Things that you think about yourself? Or things that others think about you?

What are those thoughts that keep troubling you, even to the point of keeping you up at night? Is there any help available to turn them off?

The psalmist who wrote these words today certainly must have known that crying out to God is a great first step. When you find yourself getting caught in a negative loop, whether that’s regarding a certain person, a scenario in which you find yourself, or simply an onslaught of negative thoughts as you lay your head on your pillow, stop and pray the most basic of prayers: HELP!

God already knows the struggles inside your mind. Consider Psalm 139:1-4:

You have searched me, Lord,
    and you know me.
You know when I sit and when I rise;
    you perceive my thoughts from afar.
You discern my going out and my lying down;
    you are familiar with all my ways.

 Before a word is on my tongue
    you, Lord, know it completely.

You are not alone in your negative, racing, and obsessive thoughts. God is right there just waiting for you to cry out to Him.

Reflect:

  • Put into practice today whispering a prayer of “Help God!”  every time a negative thought or word comes to your mind, or out of your mouth.
