Scripture: Philippians 1:21 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.
Devotion: YOLO. You only live once. While this acronym has been around for a long time, it became extremely popular in 2012 when the rapper, Drake, used it in one of his songs. It became a common thing to say and to post on social media. In fact, it almost became a way of life for many. What seems like a motto that would allow for adventure and fun, it can eventually lead to poor decisions with consequences.
This is often the motto that we are told to embrace. Don’t think about tomorrow or the consequences of your actions. Just do what you want to do and brings you joy in the moment because YOLO.
But as we step back, we can see the inevitable outcome of living that way. When we only make choices based on how we feel and what we want at a given moment of time, we will reap what we sow. Eventually, those decisions and the consequences that come with them will catch up. This isn’t the “normal” way of living. And certainly not everyone, whether Christian or not, lives this way. But as people who have given our life to Christ, we are called to live differently. We are called to live with the end in mind.
We recognize that our time on this earth is short. We never know when our last day will be, but we do have the hope of what waits for us on the other side. And knowing that an eternity with God is available to all who believe that Jesus is their Savior, we are called to share the Gospel with all who will hear. Let’s not get so caught up in living our own lives that we forget that we have the most amazing, life-saving news that we can share with others. Let’s live with the end in mind, recognizing that someday we will see our Savior face to face, and we want everyone to experience that.
Reflect:
- How often do you reflect on eternity in heaven?
- How can you live with the end in mind?
