Day 27 Stuff Happens

November 17, 2023

Scripture: 2 Peter 1:3-8 (NLT) By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.  And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.

In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone.

The more you grow like this, the more productive and useful you will be in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Devotional: In today’s passage, the apostle Peter, who walked with Jesus closer than anyone, encourages in some very practical ways, our growth in Jesus. He begins by reminding us of the divine power at work in each of us who have surrendered to Jesus.

Sometimes we forget about that don’t we? We forget that “You, dear children, are from God and have overcome… because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world” (1John 4:4). When stuff happens in your life, it’s easy to get discouraged, to feel defeated and to be tempted to believe the enemy’s lies.

But let this be a reminder today, by his divine power, God has given you everything you need for living a godly life. And He will continue His good work in you through all the stuff that happens, growing you into the likeness of His Son Jesus Christ.

Reflect:

  • Reread today’s passage and, as you do, ask God to speak to you and to enable you to respond to His precious promises that will enable you to grow.
