Day 29 The Book of Ruth

March 02, 2025

Devotion: Perhaps the most recognizable line for the book of Ruth is Ruth 1:16, “Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.” This statement sets the tone for the entire book of Ruth, showcasing the character of the book’s namesake and foreshadowing the faithfulness of God.

Over the past couple of weeks, we have had a chance to fully read and dive into the book of Ruth. We have been able to see in greater detail the characteristics of Ruth, Boaz, and Naomi. We have been able to see the redeeming work of the Lord in their lives. We have been in the weeds and details, combing through the scripture and letting God speak to us through it. And so, as we start our last week of this series, I thought it would be helpful to pull back a bit. We are going to get a big picture view of the book of Ruth, revisiting the main themes that have been covered in each chapter.

We will unpack how to get to the right place, finding the blessing of God, attracting the type of people that you want in your life, God’s redeeming power, and creating the life that you want to live. All of this is found in the book and life of Ruth. Isn’t it amazing the wisdom, teaching, and insight that the Lord packed into the four short chapters of Ruth? If you haven’t had a chance to read the book of Ruth in its entirety, I encourage you to do so.

If you have read Ruth over the past couple of weeks or are going to read it now, I hope that you can see God in even the minute details. And that as we take a step back to see the major themes at play, I pray that you would be able to see how God used the life of Ruth for His glory- and He can use you, too.

Reflect:

  • Have you read the book of Ruth before?
  • Prior to reading it through this time, what did you believe the book of Ruth to be about? Has that changed?
