Scripture: Titus 2:13-14 While we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.
Devotion: Throughout this series, we are looking at who God says we are and how He calls us to live. We know that we need a Savior, for we have all sinned and fallen short (Romans 3:23). And we know that through the grace of Jesus, we are justified and made alive in Christ (Romans 3:24, Ephesians 2:5). But even when we know that our identity and worth is found in Jesus, we can struggle with this in the day to day.
The world we live in always has an opinion. One group of people will say that you are living too strict and isolated, you should just loosen up a bit. While the other group says that you aren’t doing enough, you aren’t good enough, and that you need to get a grasp on things. Regardless of the decisions that you make or how you strive to live your life, people will hurl insults, questions, and opinions at you. And though we know that our hope and our worth is found in Jesus, it still can make us feel as if we aren’t good enough.
That’s where the beauty of the verses from Titus 2 for today come in. We are promised the return of Jesus. Yes, Jesus has made us a new creation. But He will come again to restore creation and make all things new (Revelation 21:5). Our fallen world will no longer have tears, pain, or sin that hurts us and wounds us. Instead, we will all be restored by the return of Jesus.
In the meantime, we can trust in the finished work of Jesus that makes us more than enough. We can try and drown out the voices of this world with His truth and His love. And we can trust in the blessed hope of His return when we will find our fulness in Him.
Reflect:
- What are some things in this life/world that make you feel as though you are not good enough? Was it something that someone said or did? How does knowing that Jesus will make all things new help shift your perspective on it?
