Day 4 Who Am I?

June 04, 2025

Scripture: Psalm 139:13-16 For you created my inmost being;

    you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;

    your works are wonderful,

    I know that full well.

My frame was not hidden from you

    when I was made in the secret place,

    when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.

Your eyes saw my unformed body;

    all the days ordained for me were written in your book

    before one of them came to be.

Devotion: Earlier this week, we looked at the idea of how with Christ, we are enough. But I want to take it back a little further. God created you. He knit you together. He knows the hairs on your head. He chose exactly what you would look like, what your voice would sound like, and what your personality would be. He knew the giftings He was giving you. He knew how you would impact this world for His Kingdom. From the very beginning of your life, in your mother’s womb, He knew your inmost being. He Himself, the very God of the universe, created every detail about you.

As I write this, I am 19 weeks pregnant with our third child. With each pregnancy, it never ceases to amaze me how quickly the baby grows and develops. This week, the baby has nerve cells developing in their brain that impact their sense of taste, hearing, sight, and smell. This little baby, approximately six inches in length, has five senses. It’s in these moments that the verses of this Psalm jump off the page and come alive. From the first days of a life being created, God is in every detail of it. From the nerve cells of the brain that help our child to hear our voices, to developing ten little toes and fingers, to hearing the baby’s voice during their first cry, God has His hand in all of it. He determined exactly who our baby would be and what they would look like.

And it is my prayer, for my kids, for myself, and for you, that we are reminded of that. When we don’t feel good enough, I hope that we find ourselves reflecting on how God chose every feature about us. From the very first days of our lives, He created us and chose us. We are His. And we are fearfully and wonderfully made.

Reflect:

  • Reflect on how God chose who you would be and what you would look like. He created your inmost being. How does that shift your perspective on the things that you would change about yourself?
  • How can you use the areas that you feel as though you are not good enough to instead glorify Him?
