Day 5 Easter

April 24, 2025

Scripture: Romans 8:35-39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written:

“For your sake we face death all day long;

    we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Devotion: There is a modern-day hymn that I love. Yes, hymns are still written in our present day and age. For much of my life, I had been under the impression that part of what made a hymn a hymn was that it was old. Alas, there are some wonderful hymns that have been written in the last 25 years. One of those is called His Mercy is More. The first stanza of words really encapsulates God’s love for us.

What love could remember no wrongs we have done?

Omniscient, all knowing, He counts not their sum.

Thrown into a sea without bottom or shore,

Our sins they are many, His mercy is more.

Our God knows all. He sees all. He knows every sin in our life. And yet, rather than living out of fear because of this, we can find comfort in it. The Lord knows every nook and cranny of our hearts and minds. He knows the good thoughts and bad thoughts we have. He knows when our heart is in the wrong place. He knows when we have given into temptation. But He forgives all of them, every single time. He doesn’t add up our sins to hold against us. Instead, they are forgiven once and for all.

There is nothing that can separate us from the love God. Nothing that we do, nothing that happens to us, no spiritual force, or anything in creation can keep us from His love. Don’t get caught up in the mistakes of your life and let the enemy fool you into believing that God doesn’t love you.

Our sins they are many, but because of His love for us, His mercy is more.
