Day 6 Religion & Politics

October 25, 2024

Scripture: Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.

Devotional: Yesterday, we talked about how we can, in humility, value others before ourselves and our own interests. And as we talk about religion and politics, we can do this by recognizing that another person’s soul and their relationship with Jesus is more important than if we agree politically. Sharing the love of Jesus is the most important thing we can do. And with the knowledge of such amazing news, we have the opportunity to tell others about it.

Let’s step back for a moment and think about this question: why are people so quick to share bad news, gossip, or even their political opinion, but often hesitant to share the good news that is found in Jesus? Likely because it is less intimidating. I know when I think about sharing my faith or talking to unbelievers about Jesus, my mind floods with all the questions and comebacks that I think they will have. And then I worry that I won’t have the right answer for them. Sharing our own opinions or a news story doesn’t open that same door. But what I am reminding myself of, as well as encouraging you to remember, is that the Gospel brings LIFE. Eternal life, at that. It brings freedom. It brings peace, joy, and hope! Things that people often desperately need and only Jesus can fill.

Today’s verse is such a good reminder: we do not need to be timid in sharing the Good News. Through this message, the Holy Spirit will work in the lives of people and bring salvation through Jesus. We have the incredible calling as those who know Jesus to share all about Him.

Reflect:

  • Do you have any relationships or areas of your life where you could start sharing about Jesus more? If none come to mind, simply pray that the whole body of Christ will work together to spread the Gospel throughout the world.
