Scripture: Romans 8:28 (emphasis added) And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
Devotion: The key scripture from the message this past Sunday was Ephesians 2:10 NLT, “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” This passage can be broken down into three main truths:
- We are God’s masterpiece.
- We are made new in Christ.
- God has good things that He planned for us to do.
You aren’t saved by good works. We know that we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus alone. But we are created for good works. God has called us according to His purpose. He has plans for all of us. And we need not worry about whether or not we are good enough or qualified enough. He will equip us to complete everything that He has called us to.
He created us, He created you, for a reason. Even if you don’t know what that reason is or you are wondering how God is working through your life, we can trust His plan and His purpose for us. We are made new in Jesus. He created us intentionally and wonderfully. He created us for good works that He planned for us long ago. He created us to glorify Him and enjoy Him forever. And when we do so, we will seek to live a life devoted to Him and will live out His purpose for our lives. He will use every part of our life for His glory and our good. We need not overcomplicate it. We can trust that when we commit our lives to Him, He will establish our path and our plans (Proverbs 16:3).
Reflect:
- Which verse speaks to you more today, Romans 8:28 or Ephesians 2:10? What part of it is standing out to you?
