
Scripture: Lamentations 3:22-24 Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail.
They are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion;
therefore I will wait for him.”
Devotion: What is the first thing that you think about when you wake up in the morning? Maybe you are a morning person, so you hop right out of bed to tackle your to-do list or start your morning routine. Maybe you not a morning and instead, the first thing that you think about is how you aren’t ready to get out of bed and want to hit snooze for the next thirty minutes. For me, being a mom with young kids in the house, I try to get my quiet time and a workout in before my kids are out of bed. But even in doing so, my thoughts usually take a little while to become clear and focused.
All of the options that I just listed can depend on our own strength. After waking up from a night of complete dependence on God while we lay there asleep and unaware, our first thoughts of the day are dependent on us. Whether we are looking forward to what the day has in store or are dreading it, we are counting on our own strength to get us through. But as we have looked at God’s unending love for us this week, we can take heart and be reminded that His love and His mercy is enough.
Because of His great love, we do not need to be consumed by our days or what happens in our life. We can trust that He gives us enough grace, mercy, and strength to get through the day. He is faithful and we can wait on Him. The love that was lavished on us through God sending His Son and the Spirit now dwelling within us is more than enough to sustain us from day to day.

- Tomorrow morning when you wake up, make an effort to first thank God for His love and His mercies. Pray that you would not rely on your own strength, but that He would help you get through the day and feel His presence all throughout it.
