The demands of life often leave us feeling stretched thin—between work, family, and personal commitments, it seems like there’s never enough hours in the day. But as believers, we know we’re called to something more: a life centered on God. Achieving balance between our busy schedules and a meaningful relationship with God is not only possible, but essential. Let’s break this down with five things to remember.
- Radical Acceptance: Life Is Busy
The first truth we acknowledge is that life is filled with responsibilities, and this is unavoidable. But if we leave it there, we believe that busyness runs our lives. This can lead to stress, anxiety, and even depression. We begin to overthink and overanalyze. Some of us can even become paralyzed by the busyness. However, the Bible gives us a different perspective.
- God Is the Foundation
As believers, God is meant to be the foundation of everything we do. Scripture proclaims His goodness and kindness. It is the overflowing story of His love for us and the provision He provides His people. If God is truly the source of strength and wisdom in our lives, then prioritizing Him will lead to a better everything!
“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
Matthew 6:33
If we put God first, the other parts of life will align, not fall apart. Therefore, making time for God isn’t just another task; it’s the key to having a balanced life.
- Life Becomes Worship
When you have the right heart, any activity can become an opportunity to spend time with God.
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”
Colossians 3:23
Cleaning the house, meeting deadlines, and caring for family can all be acts of worship when we shift our mindset. If we sing praise songs in everything we do, we can’t help but feel close to God.
- Rest Is Essential
If we know rest is important, why is it so hard to do? The world glorifies busyness. We start to believe that the more we do, the more valuable or accomplished we are. But when the things of this world become more important than God, they replace Him as the center of our lives. We begin to think that everything depends on us, and that’s when exhaustion, anxiety, and burnout set in.
Jesus reminds us of our need to stay connected to Him.
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”
John 15:5
When we lose sight of this truth, we stop relying on God’s strength and start running ourselves into the ground.
- Worrying Does Nothing
God is the one who gives us strength. Anxiety often creeps in when we think everything depends on us. If we lose focus on the One who truly cares for us, we start to depend on our own devices. If we know God is in control, then worrying does nothing. Instead, we must trust Him and surrender our stress through prayer. He will bring us peace.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
Philippians 4:6-7
Staying connected to God in the middle of a busy life is not always easy. It literally means including God in everything you do so you never lose sight of Him. Refuse to let the world distract you by boldly declaring God in every aspect of your life.
