Day 18 The Church

January 31, 2024

Scripture: Philippians 1:7-8 It is right for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you in my heart and, whether I am in chains or defending and confirming the gospel, all of you share in God’s grace with me. God can testify how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus.

Devotional: In this letter that the apostle Paul pens to the Philippian church, he pours out his genuine affection to the people there.  His words speak of the deep intimacy and love that he has for the people, along with gratitude for their shared experience of God’s grace.

Truth is, the only way we can have a shared experience of God’s grace, is to reveal those areas in which we have most needed His grace. That is, those areas of brokenness, sin, captivity, or shame. These are the dark places where God’s grace is on glorious display.  And when we are willing to share our mess, that is where we can share in God’s grace most profoundly.

This takes vulnerability. Authenticity. Trust.

It’s high risk - sure – but it also yields a return that changes everything about your life.

This is the kind of community in which God has created us to live. Where real relationships are forged, and deep connections are made. Relationships where God’s grace abounds and His love is made complete.

Reflect:

  • If you have not experienced the authentic sharing of God’s grace with others, what first steps might you take to do so?
