Day 31 Habits

June 25, 2024

Scripture: Hebrews 12:1-2 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Devotional:  Today’s passage is very helpful when we find ourselves becoming weary in our pursuit of Christlikeness.  When you find the world pulling at you, remember Jesus. When you’re discouraged by a besetting sin that you just can’t seem to overcome, remember Jesus. When you’re convinced that you just can’t change, remember Jesus.

Jesus faced the most difficult thing any human could face, compelled by His love for you. And when the anguish nearly overtook Him, He looked to His Father and remembered the joy that was awaiting Him after His suffering.

You and I are encouraged to do the same. As we fix our eyes on Jesus and remember what He endured on our behalf, we too can persevere through the difficult journey of being transformed as we train ourselves in godliness.

Reflect:

  • What cues can you set into play to remember Jesus when you’re tempted or entangled by sin or discouragement?
