Day 33 Been There

April 10, 2025

Scripture: Colossians 3:23-24 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

Devotion: There is holiness in every day. It doesn’t just exist on Sundays or in the big moments of life, but rather it exists in the seemingly mundane. In the first moments of waking up, in heating up leftovers for your family, and in being stopped at a traffic light, there is holiness. And I think that too often, we shift our gaze to the bigger moments and impact that we can have.

It is a worthy endeavor to make as big of an impact for the Kingdom of God as possible. However, this isn’t only done in the flashy, big, or obvious moments. You don’t have to be called to be a missionary in a third world country to have an impact for the Lord. You don’t have to be a pastor or theologian to share about the Word of God. You don’t have to lead thousands of people in worship in order to point people to the one true King. These are all amazing things, but there is also holiness in the mundane. These are usually the things that are unseen by people. But they are significant to the Lord.

Being a stay-at-home mom, working a 9 to 5 office job, or doing manual labor are not jobs that get a lot of recognition. It may often feel as though people don’t even notice the work and care that you put in at all. But those days, where you recognize the Spirit of the Lord all throughout the day and seek to glorify Him in every task, are significant to God.

Perhaps it is in these moments, the seemingly ordinary and mundane, that God works in our hearts the most. When we give each of these moments over to Him, He meets us there. Though insignificant to the people in this world, these quiet, everyday moments are of the utmost value to our Father.

“God is forming us into a new people. And the place of that formation is in the small moments of today.” -Tish Harrison Warren

Reflect:

  • Do you feel as though the work that you do and your day-to-day life are significant to others or insignificant?
  • Knowing that God meets us and grows us in the seemingly insignificant moments, how does that change your perspective on them?
